NCB Opposes Rhea Chakraborty And Showik's Bail Pleas Saying 'They Were Active Members Of Drug Syndicate'; High Court To Hear The Pleas Today
Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Showik Chakraborty were arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau in Sushant Singh Rajput's death case. They had moved to sessions court after the magistrate court rejected their bail pleas. However, the sessions court too rejected their pleas, after which, the sibling duo moved to the Bombay High Court. Rhea whose judicial custody was extended till October 6 is currently lodged in Byculla jail while Showik is said to be in Taloja jail. Today, the Bombay High Court is going to conduct a hearing in their bail applications. But before that, the Narcotics Control Bureau filed an affidavit yesterday in the High Court opposing their bail.

In the affidavit filed, NCB has stated that Rhea and Showik were a part of the drug syndicate as they were connected to high-profile drug peddlers. Sameer Wankhede, Zonal Director (NCB), filed two affidavits in the High Court saying, "Electronic evidence such as WhatsApp chats, records were retrieved from mobile, laptop and hard-disk and it indicated payment made for drugs. Thus, there is ample evidence to show present applicant Rhea has not only regularly dealt with but also financed illicit trafficking of drugs."

It further read, "This would tantamount to harbouring. Rhea also allowed her residence for drug storage and consumption by Rajput." In the affidavit, it has been further mentioned that Rhea and brother Showik were active members of the drug syndicate and that there is evidence proving their involvement in drug trafficking. It read, "It is clear from the statements and electronic evidence gathered by NCB that applicant is an active member of the drug syndicate connected with high society personalities and drug suppliers. There is sufficient evidence that she is involved in drug trafficking. The applicant used to facilitate drug deliveries and payment through credit cards/cash/payment gateways for the contraband," as reported by The Indian Express.
